The first Pinewood Derby was held in 1953 with miniature cars made of from a small pine block with wheels attached by small finishing nails. On Thursday, June 26th, SiteGoals hosted the inaugural Pixelwood Derby in the same tradition as over fifty years ago, but taking it to the next level.
Twenty-four creative agencies and businesses in Austin received an official Pinewood Derby car kit to design for the race. Top designs were decided by a select panel of judges, in addition to awards for speed and team spirit. This competition amongst Austin’s most creative to yield some amazing entries! See how we placed!
We took our inspiration for our love of the 80's and arcade games. Our Director of Creative Development, John Gholson came up with the idea to create a derby car after the Atari Game Pole Position.
Our CEO, Q Manning whittled, cut & glued until our creation was complete and ready for the races!
After checking in, we sized up the competion.
The result, 1st Place in design. We are so proud!
10th Place in Speed, not bad sized up against the competition.
