Using the sandwich as a vehicle to educate and advocate for local agriculture, The Brooklyn Sandwich Society was a chef-driven, farm-to-table sandwich restaurant. The identity plays with the idea of secret societies and members-only clubs, while remaining accessible to everyone. Though BKSS garnered excellent press and even a nomination for Time Out's Food Awards in 2013, high-end, politically-conscious sandwiches were not a successful venture. After eight months in business, the restaurant was reinvented as Martha.
