A physical world is very different from an imaginary world. An imaginary world has no physical restrictions. Its boundless and we can never assume its possibilities. WHAT IF we explode the head off, off from the body, away from physical restrictions...... set it loose into the world of imagination. Great ideas begin by asking WHAT IF…? We never know where it may take us, but they begin with the intent to try the untested. There is a degree of speculation in taking that first step towards reimagining how the world ‘could’ be, beyond how it is. While some see obstacles and risks, others see opportunities. Radical approaches push people to think beyond clichés and question norms to give shape and form to new ideas. Speakers from around the world will shake you out of your comfort zone and challenge you to break conventions and always ask – What if? To bring about the idea of WHAT IF the theme for KYOOORIUS DESIGNYATRA 2014 one amongst the top five annual design conferences in the world, we at Rocketscience Lab decided to go with stop motion.

 

The heads were designed out of long balloons, bulbs & crackers set on a colorful thermocol ball.  The heads were shot against green screen and then superimposed onto model shots, shot separately. For the balloon head explosion we decided to go for transparent matted fabric to imitate a slow motion color blast. The challenge was to achieve a slow motion explosion using stop frame technique.

For the cracker head explosion we used a mix of materials like thermocol balls, steel mesh, glitter pom poms, curling ribbon etc and shot in stop frame style imitating a slow motion blast. The technique was also used to bring about a unique look to the explosions.

For the bulb explosion we used colorful wires, broken bulbs, shiny ribbons etc for the blasts.

Sea plants were designed out of fabrics, pillow covers, velvet strips and various decoration materials. It was lovingly hand animated and superimposed onto final compositions.

Jellyfishes were designed out of a range of materials like skirts with pom poms, hair bands, strips of color paper, uninflated long balloons etc. These were then hand animated using stop frame style imitating under water like movements.

The client also decided to make teasers that were introduced digitally to build up curiosity towards the main event. The teasers are a perfect blend of sinister music with the visuals, which crescendo with the music to EXPLODE!
