Infographic: Navigating Social Media's Maze

Brief
The objective of this project was to create an infographic poster that effectively communicates the purpose and information in a unique and dynamic way. Important elements of this project include a clear and informative hierarchy and visually appealing use of imagery and icons.
Challenge
The media we consume strongly affects how we think, feel, and act. This infographic aims to communicate the importance of being aware of the content we engage with and the influencers we follow. The purpose of this poster is to provide a guide to help people navigate their experience on social media.

Poster Design
The primary hook, the first thing I want the viewer to look at, is the main graphic, the maze. I wanted it to stand out while allowing my information to occupy space. The red draws the eye in because it is only used in that one section of the poster. The secondary hook is the title, which will then lead the eye to the introduction. The supporting elements are split into two sections using font color, size, and orientation. Mimicking wandering through a maze, I wanted the information to follow an unusual but systematic path, allowing the viewer to experience the information in a unique way.
Research and Inspiration
For my research, I read articles about topics like "the positive and negative impacts of influencers," "What is media and digital literacy," and "How does the content we consume affect us?" During my research, I began to think of social media as a maze—something we must navigate and be thoughtful about. You can easily get lost in the influence and all the voices and opinions presented to you. When you get stuck, you may need to backtrack and reflect on where you've been to escape a dead end. I enjoyed exploring this analogy and looked at some illustrations of mazes and posters featuring them. I also looked at some infographics for inspiration to get me started.
Sketches
Here are some of my early sketches. I jotted down and brainstormed some ideas on paper before moving on to Adobe Illustrator. My final poster is a lot different from these sketches. I decided to have my poster horizontal rather than vertical to allow my main graphic, the maze, to fit my desired layout better.
Process
My process began with my desire to try out some of the 3D tools in Adobe Illustrator. I haven't played around with it much, and I enjoyed exploring some new features. Overall, I wanted my poster to follow a minimalistic style. I wanted the type to be simple and clean, so I used San Serif fonts. I moved away from the blue for the background to a light gray. The color palette I went for better followed that sleek, techy, minimalistic style I wanted.

Reflection
I enjoyed researching, putting the information together, and then organizing it to develop a layout. It was rewarding to see it come together. I am working to make decisions sooner in the process so I have the time to develop my project further and further with the time I have been given. I am learning to trust myself and the process. I enjoyed working and learning through this project.
