Premise,
“Interpersonal” is a digital portrait illustration based on a still life photo I took inside a restaurant in downtown Savannah, Georgia.
“Interpersonal” captures the essence of modern-day communication and its transformation on social interactions. The piece features a subject engrossed in her phone, illustrating our fixation with technology and its ever-growing ubiquity in our world. She lounges in the lively, limitless “buzz” of her setting. The restaurant is adorned in vibrant, oceanic decor, bringing her dynamic experience to life. She is surrounded by contrasting textures, adding depth and richness to the composition. These contrasting styles are seen in the couple conversing behind her, one being picturesque, and the other a 2d sketch. This distinction between the two illustrates the diversity of communication styles. “Interpersonal” prompts personal reflection of our relationship with technology, and encourages us to find balance between the vast, virtual world and the rare, real world.
