William Armstrong

William Armstrong was a Canadian artist and engineer born in 1822 and passed away in 1914. He studied art in Dublin and worked as both a civil engineer and a drawing master at the Toronto Normal School in the 1850s. Armstrong was known for his paintings depicting Canada's Indigenous peoples and landscapes, which he sold to notable figures like the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Newcastle. He accompanied the Wolseley Expedition to the Red River Colony in 1870, capturing the journey through his art. Armstrong's work earned him prizes at provincial exhibitions and was displayed internationally, including at the 1855 Exposition Universelle in Paris.
