Lawn mower robot & VI design

Heisenberg lawn mower robot/ Heisenbe VI design project
This is a lawn mower robot designed for Heisenberg, a newly established robot company in Shenzhen, China.

We were given the task to design a modular lawn mowing machine with upgrading and expanding capability. The design also need to be combined with the branding to help them create a unique look that will be part of the company's product identity in the future mowing robots line and other product lines. Therefore, along with the product design project, we also need to work on the branding design project simultaneously.
Slow vs fast
The movement of a current mowing robot is slow in order to thoroughly cut the grass underneath. It is also bumpy in most cases due to the uneven ground in most lawns. The visual would create a sense of discomfort when something looks fast and smooth are actually moving slow and bumpy. We tried to find a more suitable imagery for the product to fits its movement and we tried to look into some existing products with similar movement pattern. One of the example was a tank, and we also tried to find other reference materials from creatures in the nature.
Concept sketch
I found that the hexagon shape on the shell of a tortoise looks just like a jigsaw puzzle which would be a good match with the design direction of making the combination of the modules more intuitive.

In this design, I utilized the bionic design philosophy which I tried to combine some of the visual elements of tortoise to the lawn mowing robot. Since this was the first product of Heisenberg robotics, I also tried to create some visual elements which helps to make the product more strongly connected to the branding.
Intuitive modular design
The "H" visual
When designing the device, I was also thinking of implementing the green branding color and the branding elements into the design. Green naturally fits well with the turtle inspired bionic design while I use an metal decoration piece to highlight the hexagon shape and create an "H" shape that represents Heisenberg robotics on the back of the device. This is a design element that can be applied to future Heisenberg products and could become an unique family visual element of the Heisenberg branding.

HPS module
The HPS module (Heisenberg Pilot System) provides the system the most important functionality to differentiate the product from the other competitors' products in the market. The HPS module provides the robot an 180 degrees vision which accompanied by the AI algorithm, the product would be able to achieve the self-driving function on its own without any other sensors or systems from the outside. This cutting-edge Vision AI system combines advanced vision and path planning capabilities. Using multiple cameras and sensors, 2 high-performance AI chips, and deep learning algorithms, HPS ensures precise navigation and dependable mowing for a flawlessly manicured lawn.
Investments
Heisenberg robotics had successfully raised over 1 million USD of investments before the Kickstarter campaign started.
