DESIGN RESIDENCY WITH KATA MORAVSZKI
The design residency is the newest addition to the festival’s program. Organized and produced by Komplekt* this first edition is in partnership with the Hungarian Cultural Institute Liszt in Sofia. The residency programme is committed to creating more space for research, thinking and critique in the field of design, providing conditions for the creation of a new design project inspired by Sofia as a base, working environment and laboratory for new ideas. The design residency provides an opportunity to meet and exchange and make sustainable contacts with colleagues from Bulgaria and the local community.

After a careful selection of young, contemporary Hungarian designers from various fields, Komplekt has settled on Budapest-based graphic designer and illustrator Kata Moravszki, who will immerse herself together with graphic designer Richárd Lakosi in an exploration of the local context over the course of three weeks, and the result of her working stay will be presented in an exhibition recreating her impressions in a new project during the sixth edition of MELBA Design Festival.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The works on display summarise the experiences of these 3 weeks. The main focus was on gastronomy and travel, which have largely defined my work over the past years. It is the exploration, documentation and illustration of a different culture that has finally come together as an exhibition.

The exhibition included:
4 pieces of 40x50 prints
9 pieces of 50x60 prints
more than 100 analogue and instax photos

*The design residency is supported by the National Culture Fund, Programme for the rehabilitation and development of private cultural organizations and in partnership with the Liszt Institute Sofia.
