The City of Smiles
A Threadless Loves Your City Entry
Threadless recently held a Design Challenge to do a t-shirt design for a city you like or love. I chose what's known as the happiest city in this republic - Bacolod City, home of the Masskara Festival
The objective was to create something very fun-looking that would entice people who'd notice to wonder what this is about - what the City of Smiles is, why the guy's wearing a mask, what's with all the masks, why why why... To tickle that sense of curiosity about this city.
Maskara in Tagalog translates to "mask". But further back, the Masskara Festival (yes, double S) originates from the Spanish word "mass" (many) and "kara" (face).
Happy carabao. Depicts the hardworking nature of people in society that never ceases to put on smile every once in a while.
Piyaya! An all time favorite :) If you haven't, you should try it :)
The crunchy Barquillos
Colorful Puto
Sapin-sapin
Smiles everywhere :)
The "three stars and a sun" is a defining element that easily conveys our flag
Finally, I utilized negative space so that the design could accommodate the shirt's color and be more adaptive considering it already has numerous colors.
Thanks for Viewing!
