"AHA!" Birdhouse

Every great idea has an "AHA!" moment.  This specific moment is the vibrant start of a great idea that leads to a proper resolution.

The "Aha!" moment is represented in this artwork.  The simulated explosion represents all of the energy that was contained within but is immediately released upon the coming together of an idea.  It is this physical action that is the true beginning of a resolution.  The contained energy is the nesting social area of the birdhouse that builds and gathers momentum as the idea is considered.  The bursts of light sprinting from the center of the birdhouse represent the energy that is released during the generation of a great idea.  This is the "Aha!" moment and this notion is represented in this birdhouse design.  When the explosion dissipates, then an idea and resolution have been fully formed.
Birdhouses aesthetically enhance the urban landscape.  I like to think of my birdhouses as miniature people homes.  The designs are not just intended for the enjoyment of the inhabitants—rather, they are to be viewed, taken in, and enjoyed by all who see them in their natural environments.

An architecture degree demands that a student be well versed and fully immersed in design principles and their historic origins.  The education and experience acquired in studying for the degree can then be applied towards achieving artistic goals—whether architectural or otherwise.

My kids and I are driven by the process of exploration—both of the final product as well as of the means by which we arrive.  When we look at the birdhouses, we remember all of the work and collaboration that went into making them.  We remember the good times, and the memory puts a smile on our faces.
This birdhouse was one of over 900 submissions to "The Next Big Idea Science- and Math- Based Art Contest" held by The Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation (LACDC), through its MainStreet Program.  The general public voted it as the third best submission (out of 900+ submission!!).  It was also selected as a finalist by the curator.  We are very excited about this news!
