Art or Vandalism? — Senior Capstone Research Project

In our current age, the use of graffiti is actively being hindered due to the majority of our society still associating graffiti with a negative connotation, despite it’s potential to enhance artists’ power to communicate messages to the public in unique ways. Such artists that originated from the graffiti community that upheld and spread a positive impact include Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Blek le Rat, and Banksy.

The purpose of this research project is to advocate for the use of graffiti in a controlled manner to enable individuals to spread a positive impact within their own, local communities.

Over the course of 4 months, an extensive amount of research was conducted to gather both qualitative and statistical data with the addition of a publicly released, voluntary short survey that obtained individuals' perspectives on the subject matter. Using the gathered information through the conducted research, an infographic and a motion graphic were designed.
