Environmentally Friendly Motion Design Piece
This is a motion design piece that I made in the Digital Workflows module, using materials such as sound design, images, and videos to tell a story about being environmentally friendly.
To fulfil the brief, we needed to choose a specific folder of assets. I chose this one because I understand Greta Thunberg’s campaign for a more environmentally friendly world. Therefore, I could tell a more coherent story with the motion design piece if I had prior knowledge and context.
Originally, I just used static images and switched them randomly. However, after seeking feedback, I learned that my visual content needs to reflect my sound design, and to make a “motion design” piece, the images need to move. Thus, I zoomed them in and switched them to reflect the spoken content.
It is a strong motion design piece with a well-crafted narrative backbone and sound design. My knowledge of the theme allowed me to enhance the motion design film.
I could develop this further by using masks and mattes in After Effects to enhance the production value further. Additionally, my typography should have been more subtle and less saturated. In particular, the text during the fire sequence could be improved by making it contrast with the fire rather than try to match the fire colours, so they are more discernible.
Overall, a strong motion design piece, and with further experimentation, I can improve it further.
