While working on this, I had to dig deep into the meaning of Odù, the traditional beliefs of the Yoruba people of Nigeria and the study of Ifa.

So what does Odù mean?

Odu can mean different things depending on the context. Magic, Mystery, baskets of wisdom from Ifa & the name of the mysterious wife of Orunmila (the Yoruba deity of wisdom).

However, one theme remains constant; mystery & mysticism.

In this piece, I attempt to communicate the artist's heavy reliance on the Yoruba language as his preferred means of expression on the album. This is done through references to Yoruba beliefs & culture.

1. The belief that Odùdùwa was sent down by Olodùmare to create Ile-Ife (ancestral home of Yoruba people) and the rest of the world.

2. The belief that Twins are beings of mischief & mysticism.

3. The belief in the Odu Ifa teachings that is popular amongst the Yoruba people of Nigeria and the descendants of former slaves in Brazil.
