Ghostwood Animation - Horace's Hoglin Tavern
I've been drawing a lot of shops, taverns, and inns to support The Ghostwood Field Guide. I was stuck with the idea of animating some of these scenes in early RPG aesthetic. I challenged myself to do so over a weekend.
The image was designed in Photoshop, but used a lot of layer styles, masks, and effects. I flattened some of these and resorted the layers to make them easier for animation. A back ground was added and I also created some moving elements to further sell the animation. (Circled in pink.)
To create the video game like talking portrait I needed to animate Horace's static face. It was surprisingly easy to create the far right mouth open key frame and two in-betweens. I wanted it to feel jumpy, like an old school rpg, so a couple frames was good.
