Getting Insta-Educated

For the last two weeks, I've been working on doing animations with live action footage. Allow me to show the process.
First, I chose from a list of student news stories and thought up ideas for it. Below is my storyboard and asset sketches. (my apologies for the overt brightness from my scanner)

Like most of my Vector Graphics work from this semester, my style was a bit minimalist and simple. I didn't want to do anything too flashy for my animations. However, one could argue that was my downfall in this project. Below are my finished assets in Illustrator (which I ended up changing over the course of this project.
Here is a Youtube link to my finished video: https://youtu.be/5T52dsUUAQs
As one can tell, I wasn't acutely aware of how After Effects worked with already existing footage and a lot of my ideas were trimmed down significantly. The swirl effect for the pie chart was gone and the bars of the bar graph didn't go one after another. Also, my call to action text at the end was supposed to loop but I couldn't figure out how to loop a mask.
I feel like if I had more time and experience in After Effects, this project would be better. Regardless, I think I did the best I could with the limited time and experience I had.
