Old / New
The more I watch NBA games, the more I get pulled by the logos, color schemes, court designs, and seemingly infinite amount of uniforms each team has. At some point I saw a fascinating experimental redesign article for each NBA team and wanted to get my hands dirty.
The NETS caught my eye, the sleek and minimalist black and white approach that screams NY (from the present one), and the cosmic hoop (from the older version). so I thought: what if I merge them, this are the results...
In designs so minimalists like this one typography makes or breaks (also in more "complex" projects, to me type is essential), so I took quite some time playing around and choosing the proper font.
The icon on top of the black background allowed for a shadow to appear underneath the hoop, that gave it more of a "Saturn" look to it.
Placing the full team's name became a bit of a challenge since I got rid of the "shield" stroke, so I was experimenting and arrived to the notion of using the name as the NET! I'm my mind I see the logo and listen to the beautiful sound of all-net clean basket.
