ADVE2292 GDP: Project 3 Informational Factbook
For the third part of the semester-long tourism project, I created an India factbook containing information on India taken from the CIA's World Factbook website. This project includes the covers and page spreads for the factbook.

Moodboards
First, I created some moodboards to get inspiration for my covers and page layouts. I liked the use of photography in many of these examples, and wanted to do something similar.
Content Plan
I planned out all of the sections in the factbook, along with an estimate of how many pages each of them would take.
Page Concept Sketches
Next, I sketched out some ideas for page layouts and covers. This was helpful for getting a basic idea of how I want to lay out the pages, though the text will be much smaller in the real version.
Process
I started by putting all of the text from the World Factbook page into an InDesign document. I used paragraph styles to quickly format the headers, subheaders, and body text. I created a document for my factbook using the Blurb plugin, and then set up the grids and guides.
As I worked on the page spreads, I created various things to use on them. I made a map of India and the surrounding area, based on the map pictured to the left. I created a flower pattern to make the border at the top of the pages a little more fun. I also made some graphs to make the data-heavy sections more visually interesting.
I tried various different arrangements for the images, graphs, and text, and eventually decided on a way to arrange them while still having some white space for the eyes to rest.
