BARBIE CELEBRATES 50 YEARS // MATTEL TOYS UK
With the release and recent hype around the Barbie movie starring Ryan Gosling I thought I’d share work I created back in 2008-9 when Barbie turned 50 years old, that year I produced hundreds if not thousands of assets to promote her and celebrate this huge milestone in history. With the recent Barbie Movie being nominated for nine awards at the Golden Globes I thought I'd showcase some of the pieces I created and actually kept an example of as it was a long time ago!
Hamleys, the finest toy shop in the world was the place where Barbie celebrated her birthday in the UK. To build suspense and anticipation I created a window count down and teaser reel for the Hamley's window leading up to her birthday party.

The queues on the day of the party were huge leading right down Regent Street, where they got to see a real life Barbie arrive in her stretched pink limousine. The store was decked throughout.
Video reels showcased the entire 50 years of Barbie's success and famous brand image that are instantly recognisable anywhere around the world.
Bespoke trade press advertising showcased the new look of Barbie as she celebrated all she represents and has achieved.
Being 50 years old meant Barbie had fans of all ages from toddlers to pensioners, so I designed a microsite that was made of two halves. One half for New fans and one half for longstanding fans.
Mattel decided to bring back Ken after years of focusing on the many faces of Barbie that represent little girls all over the world.
Mattel HQ in Maidenhead needed to be styled with Barbie's new branding.
