Teach Kids Consent and Healthy Boundaries!
<Boundary> is a sex education card game for kids and young adults. <Boundary> focuses on teaching consent and healthy boundaries.

I've always been interested in healthy sex education as it is extremely outdated, inaccurate, and inconsistent in South Korea. As a result, sex-related crimes are severe problems in Korea. I won't give you detailed numbers and data, but It Is Scary! And it is mainly due to people not understanding basic knowledge of consent and boundaries. It's quite sad actually.

So I finally decided to stop being angry or devastated about it and do what I could do. I made a three-person team, who are also passionate about the subject and started developing <Boundary> in November 2021.

Although many things needed to be changed in sex education in South Korea, we tried to narrow down our educational objectives to keep things simple and easy. With <Boundary>, you learn to know your emotions and set your boundaries, understand that it can be different from others, and stating your boundaries is not mean. Finally and most importantly, you learn how to respect others' boundaries.

I started by drawing a few illustrations, to create a mood board for the project. I wanted it to have an outer space theme because exploring the universe reminds me of exploring our own emotions and boundaries.

I ended up not using these illustrations for the final product, but I kept these in my <Boundary> file for later use. :)

Card Illustration Design
<Boundary> consists of "Who", "When/Where", "What", and emotion cards.
For the Korean version, the cards have short Korean captions written on each card, describing them briefly. Here are some example cards of "Who", "When/Where", and "What" cards in <Boundary>.
"Who" cards
"What" cards
"When/Where" cards
Including "Online" cards as part of the boundary education was very important since a lot of sexual crimes do happen online these days, and the importance of critical thinking and media literacy education is increasing.

Board and Planet chips
The star system board and planet chips in the <Boundary> help kids visualize their boundaries. You also learn how the boundary star system can look quite different from each other. :)

Here's how it looks like as a final product! :)
And here's a video of the Boundary Activity. :)
So there you have it. :) We are still working diligently to make this better, easier, and more fun for educational purposes. There is an instruction sheet in the box introducing one main activity and one main game. However, sex education activists based in Korea and the team members are regularly conducting workshops to develop more diverse methods of use. When you purchase <Boundary> PDF files and workshops are provided so you can follow and even be part of the developing process. :)
