FISH
[about nouns]
This project pushed the boundaries of my lateral thinking to discover obscure connections to a simple noun. I then used compelling imagery to visually communicate my findings.

I took a *dive* into anything and everything that could be connected to the noun fish through mind-mapping, and collected photos for inspiration.
[here is my Dropmark inspiration board]

A digital, 16-page booklet + infold were composed with my images converted to a monotone Pantone color swatch. I had the limited choice of two colors, so paper color was thoughtfully considered for added effect. The pages were printed and assembled in a (folded) 5x7" booklet along with a designed cover to represent my noun + mind map. Manual duplex printing and saddle-stitch binding were some of the techniques used for the final deliverable.
[Hero Shot] I designed the cover to incorporate fish + plastic, along with my noun, so I could convey the overall theme.
[Written Mind Map] The refined version of my written mind map to show my general direction with lateral thinking. I decided to centralize my theme for this project on human impact [positive or negative] and the connection we have to fish and their habitat.
[Digital Mind Map] The digital spread of my cover [right] and back [left] with my noun and summarized mind map. I chose a decorative typeface for my noun to further connect to the image behind it – a fish wrapped in plastic.
[Color Theme] Exploration of Pantone swatches from left to right: original photo, PMS 419, and PMS 311.
[In-Process Highlight] The digital version of one of my favorite spreads in this project: pages 4-5.
[In-Process Highlight] The digital version of another one of my favorite spreads in this project: pages 6-7.
[Assembly] Spreads were manually duplex printed on four types of colored paper for more variation. After using the X-Acto and bone folder for precision, the cover + spreads + infold were bound together with saddle stitching.
[Infold] The photos above show the full digital spread and a hero shot of the printed infold. The focus on my infold was the contrast between habitat vs. captivity. It was printed and folded to fit within the 5x7" book, and measures 15x7" when fully open.
