Robocop diorama build

I purchased a blank resin cast of a friend from the Ukraine @clay_fan_ on Instagram with the intent of building a diorama. @clay_fan did such an amazing job of capturing all of the iconic Robocop armour details and I wanted compliment it with a diorama build.

I decided to re-imagine the classic Robocop 2 poster where he is busting through the wall and this month I finally got around to building it.

After reposing the blank figure with a bit of d.i.y dremeling and threading wire through the arms and legs. I built a wall out of some dense foam, using left overs for rubble and inserting into a picture frame for a base.

I covered the foam with a mixture of plaster of paris, black paint and mod podge. Once dry this became the sturdy dio base. I had a tester pot of navy blue paint from Resene, so I decided to use this to dry brush on the main paint coat.

Using some Krylon Coarse Stone texture spray paint I hit both sides with a bit of stone texture.

I printed some paper templates and made some miniature beer cans out of straws, a newspaper, a tiny garbage bag and TV on the reverse side of the dio.

After this, I painted Robo skin tones, and masked him ready for his base coat. I used some glossy black spray paint for this.

The real MVP of this process was Rub n' Buff, which is a type of polish. I used the smallest amount to put Robo classic metallic shine on. Which really picks up the detail and captures the light like crazy. I applied a bit of a black wash to pop some of the smaller details out.

For the photoshoot, I prompted a few Ai backgrounds (Leonardo.Ai) and set up my Huion screen as a backdrop. I placed some blue LED spot lights and a red USB bike light that I found on the side of the road. Then planted a ring light to capture the scene.

The hero picture with the backdrop is a mix of Ai backgrounds, and some photobashing. Tidying them up with Adobe PS Beta Generative fill.

The promo video above is a mixture of Ai prompts (including some motion design), stock footage and final dio filming. The voice over was created in an Ai programme.

I'm really happy with how the project turned out.

I have a lot of process building reels on Instagram if you are interested in seeing the step-by-step process.
