500 Mook Vol.02: Art Untitled
In this information-packed era, where answers to everything are at our fingertips, the constant influx and update of information in our minds provide a sense of security. However, this process of ”gaining“ is also a form of ”losing.“ When understanding or appreciating a piece of art, the correct answer isn’t necessarily crucial. Artists aren‘t posing questions, and we aren’t providing answers. Have you ever stood in front of a piece of art, silently gazing at it, without any explanation yet truly feeling the message and energy it conveys? Examining a piece titled ”Untitled,“ a beautiful annotation is bestowed upon everything, granting viewers the ultimate interpretative authority.
Hence, in 500 Mook Vol.2, we embark on a perceptual journey with ”Art: Untitled,“ making ”art“ the subject and exploring various dimensions through different prepositions.
Nietzsche believed the world lacks truth, only interpretations. Italian philosopher Croce asserted that art‘s essence is human intuition, sourced from emotion and will. Thus, art’s core is human emotion, and these artworks become ‘vessels’ for these wills. The cover designed by Local Remote continues this concept, symbolizing art through an abstract “vessel” that carries diverse forms and meanings. Viewers can interpret it from any angle, inside and out, even peeling back its surface to feel its core and will. The distorted ‘vessel’ and text interact within the book‘s chapters and abstract statements, becoming the visual elements of this season.
