Mancala - Reviving a board game

A two player board game, Mancala originates from Africa and is now played in widely spread parts of the world. This game was originally played with seeds on a wooden board with pits. 
Board games not only help in keeping our social systems intact but also helps in preserving cultures that revolve around these board games. Therefore the need to bring Mancala alive.




Design provides a solution to introduce a board game to the youth of today, to drive them towards it and away from their X boxes. Something that people can experience. A tournament of Mancala that brings people together to celebrate a game. A system for the tournament is developed right from naming it to building brochures, invites, posters, exciting enough to draw the attention of people. "The Thinking Seed" aims at informing people about Mancala, helping them learn how to play it, getting them hooked to it, reviving it.
Getting the Graphic Language together, inspired by the game itself. The seeds, the importance of direction, the generic shape of the board used to play. The above diagram illustrated a typical board used in Mancala. 
Brochure that educates not only about the history of the game but also about, how the game is played. It also includes an invite that informs about the tournament.



The invite engages and reveals information when a viewer interacts with it. 




The event space includes an interactive wall. A wall with a different version of a crossword. Making words, right, left and across. This wall can also be seen as a result of how well the event succeeded to engage and attract people.
