Tribute 2 - John Walker
Inventor of the matchstick
The second in my series of typographic tributes. This time it is for the inventor of the modern day matchstick, John Walker. Over a few months, I created this piece using 10,000 matchsticks. Of course, I had to set it alight too.
While Walker was preparing a lighting mixture on one occasion, a match which had been dipped in it took fire by an accidental friction upon the hearth. He at once appreciated the practical value of the discovery, and started making friction matches.
