The Knicks put on a show at Columbia University October 21, 2014, taking part in the ORANGE AND BLUE SCRIMMAGE in front of a couple thousand cheering fans. It was a great opportunity for the players to have some fun while simultaneously working into game shape with the regular season starting up.
Before the Knicks 2013-14 season-opener at the fully transformed Madison Square Garden, celebrities and Knicks legends crossed the CHASE KNICKS BLUE CARPET to catch the big game.
On Sunday, Mar. 23, 2014 the New York Knicks hosted Noche Latina Night, when they took on the Cleveland Cavaliers, as part of the NBA’s eighth annual Noche éne•bé•a program. In support of the League’s initiative and as a continuation of the Knicks’ multicultural outreach efforts, the Knicks hosted LOS KNICKS FAN FESTIVAL before Noche Latina in front of Madison Square Garden.

The pregame fan festival was hosted by Spanish-language radio stations La Mega 97.9 and 93.1 Amor and celebrated Latino heritage and culture. It will featured local Latin artists such as DJ Supreme and Marisol, Hispanic food, Latin-themed dance lessons and performances, as well as family friendly activities including face painters and photo booths.

The national anthem was performed in Spanish by Carrissa Peros, the Knicks City Dancers performed salsa to “Quimbara,” a classic energy song by the legendary Celia Cruz and DJ Alex Sensation from La Mega 97.9 will be the in-game DJ.
PHIL JACKSON NAMED PRESIDENT OF NEW YORK KNICKS

NEW YORK, March 18, 2014 –Madison Square Garden Executive Chairman James L. Dolan today announced that legendary basketball figure Phil Jackson has joined the New York Knicks as the organization’s President. Steve Mills will serve as General Manager. Both Mr. Jackson and Mr. Mills will report directly to Mr. Dolan.

Mr. Jackson won two championships as a player with the Knicks in 1970 and 1973, and is widely considered one of the greatest coaches in the history of the National Basketball Association. He was the head coach of the Chicago Bulls from 1989 until 1998, during which time Chicago won six NBA titles. His next team, the Los Angeles Lakers, won five NBA titles from 2000 until 2010. In total, Jackson has won 11 NBA titles as a coach, surpassing the previous record of nine set by Red Auerbach. He also holds the NBA record for the most combined championships as a player and a head coach. In 2007 Jackson was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. In 1996, as part of celebrations for the National Basketball Association's 50th anniversary, Jackson was named one of the 10 greatest coaches in league history.
Dream Big Speak Out is an original program created by the Garden of Dreams Foundation, New York Knicks and Urban Word NYC that is designed to inspire students to engage and reflect on the African American experience as well as how Black History inspires everyday lives. Over the course of an 8-week program, 15 teens from Garden of Dreams partner organization, SCO Family of Services will meet weekly at the Urban Word offices to explore history, poetry, music and popular culture to cultivate their powerful, youth voices. The program will culminate in live performances at The Dream Big Speak Out Open Mic Event this Spring.

On January 6, the program launched with a trip to Washington, D.C. accompanied by Knicks legend John Starks. During their time in Washington D.C., the teens and Starks toured national monuments and memorials including the Washington Monument, World War II Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Lincoln Memorial and Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. Throughout the day, the teens were introduced to historical topics related to program’s overall theme and concluded the trip with dinner at Busboys & Poets.
