Pink Floyd - Eclipse - 50TH ANNIVERSARY COMPETITION

Description
In mid-August 2023 I discovered that Pink Floyd was launching a competition for Animators who wanted to use one of their songs from the Album The Dark Side of The Moon, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the album's release.
After pondering for a few days and flirting with some ideas, I teamed up with Helena Ene to do the storyboards and artwork, and Lucas Pastore to help with the animations.
It was a double and sometimes triple journey, but very exciting and full of pride for what we were doing. It was the biggest personal project I planned and without a doubt the best I managed to execute until the end with the same thought and intention, without hesitation.

You can see more about the competition on the link: https://www.pinkfloyd.com/tdsotm50/competition/

Using the song "Eclipse", we imagine a continuous cycle of life, from the universe's birth to the last choice we make in life, with all the contradictions, fights, loves, mistakes, and successes in between. We doodled the thumbnails and some sketches on Pro Create and sent them to Photoshop to refine, to create the VFX and animations we used After Effects.

"There are a number of things that affect an individual and influence their view of existence. There are pressures that are capable of pushing you in one direction or another, whether they push you toward insanity, death, empathy, or greed. that's what the record is about." - Roger Waters
Directed by: Cesar Maciel
Storyboard: Helena Enne; Cesar Maciel

Music: Eclipse - Pink Floyd
Storyboards
As the main idea was already formed, we scribbled down some compositions that came easily, while others needed to research their meaning a little deeper. For some Compositions, we tried to illustrate the words in a way that they were not literal, but that added to the meaning of each word.
Animatic
With all the sketches ready, we set up an Animatic to synchronize the images with the timing of the music, and also to see if the idea of the scenes worked with what we had imagined.

We were not sure if the initial scenes would work, so we picked up some images as mock-ups just to sync with the song.

Some ideas where modified and others completely changed after this first version.
Style Frames
In Parallel with the Animatic, we move on to establish the final style of the illustration, we pick up some artwork that we felt worked on the Animatic and move forward with them.

After the pre-production was completed, we started to finalize the other artworks, and in parallel to animate the ones that were finished.
Final Result
Thank you for your time.
