An Ode to a Christmas Tree

Tragic denouement: photographed over the few days between being dropped outside and the council collecting them, these Christmas trees seem irrevocably sad. When they first arrived they were imbued with promise, and once festooned with baubles and lights, they were a warm prophecy of families reunited, gifts shared, happy times. At night, from the outside, with their twinkling lights, they indicated joyfulness and hope, warm benevolence, sanctuary, goodwill.
But Christmas is soon over and these totems of togetherness and generosity are stripped of their decorations and thrown out, ready for aerobic composting. It all seems rather unfair and depressing.
