Berlin U-Bahn Station Series
Berlin, the vibrant capital of Germany, is renowned for its rich history, diverse culture, and avant-garde spirit. One distinctive aspect of Berlin's urban landscape is its U-Bahn stations, which stand as a testament to the city's creative and innovative ethos. The U-Bahn, Berlin's efficient and expansive underground metro system, features a fascinating array of stations that showcase a blend of architectural styles. The publication highlights the influential work of architects such as Alfred Grenander and Rainer G. Rümmler, who both left a lasting impact on the architecture of the U-Bahn transit network.
In the early 70s Rümmler built a number of 'color space' stations and each one of them is unique in its own way. It is inspirational for me that idea behind these designs was to turn the everyday experience of commuting into something visually interesting. The following project consists of 8 individual pieces of some of the stations I chose to re-create in a still and animated poster designs. Every aspect of these posters are hand made in the design software; obviously inspiration comes from Rümmler's style and also my love for Bauhaus design movement.
