Packaging Design Trends:
Botanical Maximalism
Botanical Maximalism
Botanical maximalism is having a moment.
While minimalism has been a prevailing trend for several years: characterized by simplicity, clean lines, and a reductionist aesthetic, botanical maximalism emerges as a vibrant alternative that celebrates opulence, intricacy, and a return to craftsmanship and artistry.
Lush botanical elements are everywhere right now, creating visually rich packaging across industries. Below, see how even some of the world's biggest brands are embracing maximalism with a collection of some of my favorite designs:
Bombay Sapphire Celebrates Botanicals
A botanical explosion of lines, textures and movement.
I was tapped by BOMBAY SAPPHIRE to illustrate a new limited-edition label, inspired by the 100% sustainably sourced botanicals at the heart of its iconic gin, highlighting the brand’s mission to pioneer a more sustainable future.
BOMBAY SAPPHIRE gin features 100% sustainably sourced botanicals and works closely with suppliers and growers, not only for direct access to the finest ingredients, but also to support their development. This process was the inspiration behind the label design – celebrating not just the responsibly sourced botanicals, but also the creativity and collaboration behind the gin-making process.

Philosophy Goes Big on Botanicals for Mother's Day
I was commissioned by Philosophy, a renowned beauty and skincare brand, to create dense botanical illustrations for four new gift sets: Amazing Grace, Pure Grace, Amazing Grace Ballet Rose, and Amazing Grace Bergamot.
The objective was to design lush botanical compositions that highlighted the scent note ingredients of each specific collection. The project aimed to strike a balance between uniqueness for each gift set and cohesiveness as a full collection, while leaning into a verdant, overgrown bouquet aesthetic.

Elysian Dizzies with Monochrome Linework
I joined forces with Elysian Brewing Company to create a special edition packaging illustration for their iconic IPA, "Snailbones IPA," in celebration of the brewery's 25-year anniversary.
The collaboration resulted in a limited-edition reinterpretation of the beloved IPA, featuring my detailed monochrome illustration with hidden snails, botanicals, and elements that highlight the beer's flavor notes.
The special edition Snailbones IPA was available exclusively as part of the Elysian XXV 25-pack.

Fauxmosa goes French
Non-alcoholic cocktails are entering the market with a bang. Evoking Parisian cafes and warm summer days, Fauxmosa's offers an initial lineup of four varieties of mimosa-inspired drinks.
The design pairs bold vintage badging with delicate illustrations that bring the freshness and quality of their ingredients to the forefront, presenting something eye-catching that stands out in a quickly growing segment.

Arteza Rings in the Holidays with Big Blooms
For their annual art supply advent calendar, Arteza chose a floral-forward design that wrapped edge-to-edge around the custom box.
The illustration was meant to be a festive backdrop of florals, including chrysanthemums, poinsettia and winterberries alongside gold detailing, all interwoven with iconic Arteza products.

Beekman 1802 goes Bold on Black & White
For their line of Arcadia goat milk products, Beekman 1802 wanted a hand-crafted artisanal aesthetic that crafted the pastoral charm of their products.
I worked to craft a monochrome pattern alongside a typographic icon that could be used cohesively across the collection, while still allowing each product to be eye-catching as a standalone sku.

Publix Says "I Do" to Maximalist Patterns
I was commissioned by Publix to illustrate the packaging for their limited-edition ice cream flavor, "Marry Me Strawberry." The collaboration resulted in a visually stunning and delectable packaging design that showcases my intricate illustrations.
Bursting with strawberries and strawberry leaves in a creamy vanilla-enrobed palette, this package immediately stands out from it's competitors on the shelf.
Thanks for viewing! I hope 2024 is full of lush botanical showstopper.
