The client had received funding to build a knowledge portal. They first wanted to explore and validate users’ feature requirements before going ahead with the design and build.
User research

I interviewed five entrepreneurial hub staff, representing two of the draft personas I’d already created. I compiled their feedback into a report.

I collected “as a...” user stories from all the participants, to inform later steps of the process.
Personas

I edited and validated the hub staff personas based on the user research findings.

The user research findings also led the client to add hub participants and entrepreneurs as personas.
Storyboards

To establish a shared understanding with the client team of the scope and requirements of the system.

Storyboards covered the ‘as a...’ user stories that were collected during user interviews, as well as client feature requirements.
Information architecture

I facilitated a card sort with the client team to design the information architecture.

A big design factor was resource findability (including search and filter options) and navigation through different location hierarchies.
Wireframe prototypes

The wireframes focused on the visibility of resources-related navigation systems, and on content hierarchy within screens.

I selected some mobile screens to show responsive display and behaviour.

Like most projects, the largest proportion of effort within the project went into wireframe prototyping.
