Shades of Gray: Irreversible

Shades of Gray is the official student literary folio of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. Irreversible (Volume 25) is about doomed fates, wrong turns, and the consequences of your own actions catching up to you.

As the Layout Editor for this issue, I led a team of five layout artists in creating spreads inspired by children's storybooks. Having the art and text intermingle this way serves as a stark contrast between the childlike wonder of discovering new stories only to find revelations that should've stayed buried in the first place.

The workflow for this folio began with the Layout section, where we allotted space for the visuals by forming simple shapes and placed the text on the page. These shapes are often based on the themes and content of the literary pieces provided.

Then, the pagination draft is sent to Benildean Press Corps' incredible Arts & Design section to bring these pages to life. Once the visuals are complete, we place the art on the page and adjust elements of the layout accordingly. The visuals and typography all work together to create that twisted storybook feel of Irreversible.
