New Years card

Was commissioned to create a simple company greeting card celebrating the
Japanese New Year.
Client requested a few fixed elements- usage of the company's blue color, philosophy "Cycle of Goodness" and fixed logo+name in their typeface. They were strict on the white background for the calligraphy they provided, and no assets were to be manipulated in any way for the final design.

THE DESIGN
I decided on black ink as the main stylistic direction to compliment the calligraphy artwork already provided. The red-crowned crane is a symbol of good luck and longevity in Japan. Amongst all options pitched, the client liked it the best.
After locking in these elements, I played with different compositions and ways to incorporate YKK AP's blue that's not too overpowering. Final design as shown.
