Hybrid Imagery + Greiman

My goal was to create a jacket for a book concerning the work of April Greiman who is a 20th century designer. I tried using a unique hierarchy and non-traditional methods. In this instance, I used a photo taken from a monitor.

I kept in mind that my design should try to be explorative, nonconformity, vibrant, and playful. Normally, I try to keep things orderly, so I tried to stray away from that. Along with trying something different, I used more vibrant colors. At first, it felt a little awkward creating the design but, eventually it became fun to create and improve.

The first design felt very empty and because of the yellow look, it makes me thing I would find this book in an old library. To solve the emptiness, I tried throwing in other squares and rectangles of varying sizes. They were in full color so the whole design felt too vibrant, it kinda hurt my eyes so, I then lowered the opacity of the shapes and I felt much more satisfied with it. I also tried fixing the yellowness of the original photo. At first I tried making it as light as possible but then it started feeling like the cover was too white, kinda like the hallways of a hospital. So I found a middle ground between the original and the "hospital" version. In the end, I feel much better with the design.

I also used my own original text for the photo part.
