This is my design for the book "Hybrid Imagery: The Fusion of Technology and Graphic Design" by April Grieman. The goal was to use some form of photographic screen element as well as using typography to experiment with expression + composition. The design of the cover is 32.75" x 12", within that 4" inch flaps on each size as well as a .75" spine.
This is a more realistic mockup of my design. The required text that is featured is as follows: "April Greiman Hybrid Imagery: The Fusion of Technology and Graphic Design Published by Watson-Guptill, New York, NY, 1990.
Front of the design. The typefaces featured in this design are Helvetica Immortalis, Helvetica, and Platelet.
Back of the design. I thought keeping the color palette simple would give me more freedom to add small accents such as the red letters or the "shadow" behind the title-without making the composition too busy.
Images like these were what gave my booklet that interest I was looking for. I took pictures of my screen with different focuses and angles.
These are two closeups of my design. The transparency and texture in the background contribute to the depth of the design. I thought being able to see the individual pixels from the screen picture combined with the sharp lines of the typefaces used would create a form of harmony over the entire booklet.
This is the entire spread. Here you can see what I was referring to above in terms or balance, and depth. As well as keeping the overall composition light on the eyes.
