Mahawo's Custom Product Builder: A Case Study
Introduction:
Mahawo is a handicraft store that specializes in phone necklace holders known as "straps." The store offers hundreds of different colors, designs, components, and shapes for its straps. However, the customers could only purchase predetermined product packs and bundles from the store, and there was no option to customize the straps to their preferences. Therefore, the project aimed to provide an online platform for Mahawo's customers to customize and order their preferred straps. This case study explores the design and development of the Custom Product Builder (CPB) feature for Mahawo's online platform.

Objectives:
To create an online platform enabling Mahawo's customers to customize and order their preferred straps.

Problem Statement:
Mahawo's customers could not customize their preferred straps in the standard store, where customers could only purchase predetermined product packs and bundles. As a result, Mahawo was missing out on a significant sales opportunity.
Development Process:
After identifying the requirements, must-haves, and conditions, the technical aspect of the project was delved into. The idea was to digitize all the products available in the store as modules using Photoshop. These modules, composed of PNG image files, were then positioned in the application based on each product's X, Y, and Z coordinates. When a user selects these layers, comprising PNG images in specific positions, they will align to form a customized product. Over 190 different layers of products were extracted, offering users hundreds of customization options.
Improving the User Journey:
The initial version of the CPB was launched with the digitized products, and the user journey was improved by 46% by revising and adjusting the user flow based on user feedback on the initial performance. The feedback was used to enhance the user experience, making it more intuitive, seamless, and user-friendly. The final version of the CPB was launched on Mahawo's online platform
Results:
Following the development and launch of this small project, the impression rate of Mahawo's store increased by 19%. The CPB feature was well received, leading to significant sales for Mahawo's customers. The customization option increased customer engagement and retention, making the shopping experience more personalized and enjoyable.
Conclusion:
Mahawo's online platform for handcrafted phone straps was transformed with the introduction of the Custom Product Builder feature. By providing a platform for customers to customize their preferred straps, Mahawo was able to increase customer engagement, retention, and sales. The digitization of products using Photoshop and positioning them in the application based on each product's X, Y, and Z coordinates made the customization process seamless and user-friendly. The feedback from users was used to improve the user journey, making it more intuitive and personalized. The CPB feature was successful, leading to a significant increase in the impression rate of Mahawo's store and customer sales.
