Jemma Chisholm's profile

HSI Global-Packaging design/Artworking

Throughout my time working for the company, I worked on packaging design and art working. This included bespoke box packaging for each of our products each following our brand styles, wallet style bags for smaller, flatter products and inserts that came with products to highlight key features or explaining optimal use.

Working closely with the industrial designer I was tasked with updating artworks due to brands going through a creative refresh as well as building building box nets from scratch. Through this process I was kept right in terms of dimensions, the legal requirements that needed to be met such as information that must be included on the box as well as the size of the logos and typefaces.

Each task completed was reviewed by the lead designer for final sense checks and then the industrial designer for legal checks, each file was then embedded and packaged before being sent to our printers in China, ready to package the products in the warehouses.
Livivo Pedestal Fan Box Design:
This design was created from scratch using brand guidelines developed by the design team. There is a hierarchy of text size and weight and each logo and barcode are of a minimum size to meet legal requirements. The net of this box has been sized accordingly with the size of the product itself and I created the illustration of the fan from scratch making sure the line weight is according to the guideline requirements.
Livivo Wire Fruit Basket Box Design:
This box design already existed so it was just a case of refreshing the layout and style as per the latest guidelines to give the design a bit of a facelift and stay consistent with all the other packaging under this brand.
Hillington: Portable Camping Toilet Insert

Old Design:
This was the insert that came with the product under the old Hillington branding, the task was to update the size of the template following the new brand guidelines and change the key features based on the new assets I previously made. This ensured continuity from the Amazon listing through to the customer receiving the product, enhancing the customers experience and the level of professionalism portrayed through the business.
New Insert Design:
Updated design ready for print production, the pink outline is the true dimension of the insert showing where the file will be cut once printed.
Boules Set Insert:
Old Insert Design:
Not only is this design too busy, the design is now outdated after brand re-structuring meaning that the product will now be sold under another one of our brands. The product itself changed a little when it was re-ordered for this year to match the brand colours so part of my task involved taking an image of the boules set and re-colouring the balls to accurately reflect the new product.
New Insert Design:
New double-sided, re-sized design with the boules now reflecting the right colours. This also had a UV layer placed on top so that certain elements of the insert would have a slightly raised gloss finish. One of the hardest things about this task was finding a base colour as pretty much every colour in the brand library is used somewhere in the design. This meant I had to branch outside the guidelines as a one off and find a colour that would compliment the design without feeling off brand which led to settling on this teal.
UV layer created as solid shapes to show where there would be a slightly raised gloss finish.
Boules Set Bag:
A bag of this design already existed but the task was to edit the dimensions so the bag would be bespoke to the boules set, it is small finishing product details like this where the final touches such as the packaging is tailored to the product. It's these details that really elevates the final product and the experience of shopping with the brand for the customer. The other change I made that was different to the existing bags was to change the layout of the elements so that the bag would work as landscape instead of being portrait or square. This worked with the natural shape of the product and made more sense putting myself in the shoes of the consumer opening the package as they will instantly see the product at the orientation it was intended to be seen at.
