Every year, the team at VandalThreads launches new and exciting designs to raise money for charitable causes. This year, they chose to champion Mind charity with a motivational quote that aims to keep you pushing through, even on the darkest of days.
The team approached me with an awesome challenge: creating a scripture custom typography-based logo design system that would outline their powerful message to raise awareness and funds on their mission to support Mind this year.
As someone who has faced mental health challenges, projects like these hold a special place in my heart. I took it upon myself to not only create a custom logotype but also a visual identity that would cover a variety of mental health-related themes.
These themes were built to diversify the product range and types of products that could be sold, giving supporters more options and variety in how they can contribute through several buy-in levels, whichever they feel most comfortable with.
Each theme was designed to represent not only the charitable aspect of the product line but also stay true to VandalThreads' overall streetwear aesthetic, which I've had the pleasure of helping develop since their arrival in 2021.
The ideas behind each theme were centered on the complexity of the mind, illustrated through a chaotic pattern, a compass used to convey a sense of direction, and to play into the idea behind the scripture, a maze-like structure was incorporated into the overall logotype with a negative space arrow indicating forward momentum and movement.
All of which created the opportunity to sell: various posters, cups/mugs, t-shirts, hoodies, sticker sheets and snapback caps.
