1. For this assignment, the first thing I did was grab a landscape image from a source that I wanted to vectorize.
2. From there, I saved the image and opened it up in Illustrator on a 11 x 8.5 inch canvas at 300dpi. Scaling it so it fit correctly onto the canvas.
3. After that was complete, I grabbed the pen tool and started to vectorize. This was done by basically going over the objects in the photo with the pen tool and then using the pen tool again to go over the objects just created to give them value and depth.
4. From there, I used a blend mode on the water layer to allow for it to feel more like water. As I copied and pasted and flipped the mountain and hills to place them as a reflection in the water.
5. After that was complete, I created a gradient for the sky and added some clouds as well, which I also pasted into the water.
7. After creating one part of the final project, next it was time to change up the image with its color and the season it was going to represent. As the previous creation was representing Fall, for the season, I decided the image would represent Winter.
8. So, the first thing I did was change the gradient in the sky to represent night time more. This was done by making the values of the gradient map a darker blue, as it went from dark to light.
9. From there, I added some stars by using the pen tool and changed the color of the grass to a lighter yellow by using the selection and the eye drop tool.
10. Finally, I added some show to the hills and some more snow to the mountain to represent the season more. As I duplicated it and placed it on the reflected elements.
11. From there, the Winter piece was complete and it was time to create the next season piece: Summer. Altogether, for this piece I wanted to mess with the gradient map a bit more. So I had it set during sunset.
12. This piece was done very similar to the last one. As I tool the previous season and changed up its elements to match the new season. From winter to summer. This was done by again by using the selection and the eye drop tool.
13. As the objects in the scene changed color, some elements were also taken away. For example I took away the show on the mountain and added back the clouds for it to represent a time of nature and a time of heat.
14. As the summer season piece was finished, there was one last season to recreate for an above and beyond scoring. So I altogether picked to do Spring for the last one.
15. Again, as the previous version was changed up to match a new season. The elements in the piece were changed and so was the gradient map. Along with some objects changing, as for example the snow on the mountain was added back. However, it was shrunken down to show that it was melting away. All things to represent seasonal change.
16. During each process for each season, all the final products were exported as JPGs at 300dpi. Something that was quite useful as it allowed for me to save the piece before changing it up.
