Сustom card for "Wingspan"
In 2022, I took an illustration commission from my friend. He wanted a custom Wingspan board game card (for personal, non-commercial use only). This is a board game about different species of birds and their lives. It was supposed to be a surprise gift for his wife, and the bird that will be depicted on the card should represent her.
The idea, all the texts on the card and the sizes of the elements were prepared by customer, and I made the first few sketches. The bird was supposed to be cute, sleepy and have feathers in the colors of the Ukrainian flag:
The bird was to be called "Ukrainian Sleepochka", the customer wanted it to sleep on a pillow. So we changed the pose a little so that the bird and the pillow were better visible, the result was the following illustration:
After the finished design was approved, I had to recreate the template of the card so that it would not differ from the other cards in the deck. All elements were drawn by hand, she also selected the fonts herself. After this step, I prepared the file for printing. Here we see the ready-made layout of the card and its printed version in the customer's hand.
The card has already been printed in Denmark and found by a surprised Anna during the game, so the surprise was successful! Thank you again for such a cute order! ✨
