Still Water Illustration
About Project: Our assignment was to design two original illustrations for Still Water bottle labels. Though the brand did not specify any limitations, there were requirements that needed to be fulfilled:
- Our illustrations had to demonstrate a comprehension of the fundamental principles of abstraction, exaggeration, simplification, stylization, character development, and narrative.
- On paper, we had to demonstrate a distinct idea and stylistic evolution and approach.
Mermaids served as the primary inspiration for these illustrations, a mermaid is an aquatic creature with the head and upper body of a female human and the tail of a fish. Mermaids are intriguing, mysterious sea-dwelling creatures that are typically known for being shy and wary of humans they are also renowned for making friends with all forms of aquatic life, and so both illustrations played on this information. I decided to work more with semi-realism and exaggeration as well as using a painting-like art style to play with the idea of how old mermaid legends actually are overall I wanted the illustrations to feel raw.
