"Lost Kid" book ink illustrations

Illustrations for a book of poetry by New York writer Kid Gillis, exploring her childhood abandonment and trauma. How it affected her then, and through her life to now, with a hopeful glints of light in the darkness.
 
I used a primarily monochromatic ink approach - the starkness suited the subject and its author (she also goes by "Kid Ink"). It also allowed for the use of colour here and there for best impact.
