100 Days Project 2020 51-60

Days 51-60
In April of 2020, I began the 100 days project on instagram. Each day, I used a photograph I made and transformed it into a watercolor. In these ten images, we see a range of subject matter—architecture, public art, protest. One of the most memorable aspects of a walk around Cincinnati is its architecture, but the public art gracing her walls is a sight to behold. There are stories both local and international depicted there. I encourage everyone to take a walk next time you find the time to visit here.

2020 was also a year of protest. I had never been to a protest before then. Although Cincinnati did fall victim to some of the destructive side of this summer of collective action, the human side was a thing of beauty. I asked Catherine Grace if I could render some of her beautiful images in watercolor. I hope I did them justice.
Details of Rose Window and crowds in front of Music Hall at night. This image was from a night art and light installation festival, Blink. Stay tuned for Blink's return in October of 2024.
This is an image of a beautiful mural in downtown Cincinnati based on the work of John Ruthven, our modern-day Audobon. The work is called 'Martha, the last Passenger Pigeon.' In 2020, we saw the passing of Ruthven. I thought including some of his work was essential to this series. Along with Charley Harper, he is among Cincinnati's most impactful and influential artists.
My favorite donut shop in Cincinnati, Holtman's. Although the OTR location is no longer present, you can visit them in Loveland, West Chester, and Oakley.
One of Cincinnati's many buildings to make it onto the National Historic Register, the Netherlands Plaza, has a room called The Hall of Mirrors. I recommend a casual visit on a weekday morning.
