'Grounded by Africa' Surface Design

Research
Within my research I investigated themes such as Afrofuturism, sustainable design and pattern-making. Furthermore, I researched the works of successful African-based artists that work within the pattern-making and surface design realm such as Karabo Poppy and Musonda Kabwe.
Making Pattern Elements
I began to explore the idea of being 'grounded' through a combination of pencil drawings, paintings and oil monotypes of some dirty feet. I also explored pattern making using simplified shapes. Using images of Libumba's products, I simplified the ceramics to colours and shapes.
