Sally Mann Reflection

Sally Mann Reflection
Sally Mann was a photographer who focused on some of the more taboo areas of the world. Most notably in the documentary she focused on things such as death, decay, and children in the nude. Going into the documentary with surface-level knowledge about her work I had a hesitant mindset, however, as she explained her thought process with some things I began to understand her perspective a little more. That being said, I did find myself a little disturbed by some of the imagery and how she interacted with things, specifically the forensic field she was given access to. While there was permission given and respect to some degree, I found the poking and touching to read disrespectful and grotesque, especially when accompanied by some of the verbiage used in describing it. Overall, I find her work to be impressive, especially in the equipment used and commitment to time and patience, despite her subject matter and perspective not exactly being to my taste.
