Covid Relief Connect App- For Volunteers and Donors

Problem Statement
India is seeing a rapid rise in COVID cases. This time again the poor and the homeless are the worst affected by the infection. They do not have the awareness, nor the funds.

Several volunteers across the state are trying to reach these people with necessary help and information. Although their intention is good, yet they are unable to organise and connect with other volunteers for a wider and more effective impact.

They need information such as:
1. Where are the patients located?
2. How many?
3. What is their current situation?
4. Availability of ambulances and hospitals?
5. Any additional help needed?

They also need to reach people/institutions who are willing to help with:
1. Funds
2. Medications
3. Emergency logistics
4. Food or Any other essential item

Visualise a Mobile application (android or ios) that will enable these volunteers to be more effective.
Thought Process for Solution
Our target group we’re actually looking to help ultimately?- Poor and the homeless (because they are the worst affected by the infection).

But their constraint?

1. Aren’t aware of the govt. help campaigns
2. Low or negligible tech literacy
3. Don’t have finances to assist their family members (if impacted by coronavirus)

So, How will they use our app anyhow?
They will not use the app. They will be the beneficiary of the app. Volunteers will use this app and register these patients around them on the app and will keep their complete patient management profile updated.

So that in case, these volunteers lack any resources to take care of them, they may connect with other volunteers and donors to get the required resources for the patient

The volunteer will register the patient who needs assistance (either financial or medical) and keep their profile and condition updated. They can request assistance on the app and other volunteers & donors can reach out to the volunteer to help them.

Following are the patient details that will be visible to the donor:
1. Name of the patient
2. Their location
3. Health condition (Mild/Moderate/Critical)
4. Their Need (Medical logistics/funds/others)
5. Their volunteer

Also, an SOS feature can be added so that in case of an absolute emergency, all the registered volunteers and donors (within a 10 km radius) will get a push notification about the patient's details.

But as mentioned above, these volunteers are mostly the people around them. Chances are, they don't know English. How will they help?

Our app will support 14 Indian languages based on script (like Bengali, Tamil, Punjabi, Hindi, etc.) The users can choose the language on their first screen at the time of onboarding itself.

But Awadhesh, what if volunteers create fake IDs of themselves and their patients just to get money?

This has a high possibility. So, I iterated a credible onboarding procedure to minimize the risk. This includes uploading the Aadhaar details. This way we can cross-verify their name, address, and contact details. Also, this ensures that each volunteer can have only one profile on the app.

The donors and other volunteers can also give feedback to the app about any suspicious activity. The account for volunteers gets activated within hours, not instantly to verify the details.

For every patient these volunteers register under them, they need to upload the Aadhar card and the registered contact number on the Aadhar card. The OTP is sent to that contact number to verify.

However, a balance will be made so that the onboarding process is not overwhelming for the volunteer.

The onboarding for the donor is kept simple and doesn't require any stress. Also, both donors as well as volunteers will still have the option (in the profile section) to change their roles.

Thus, there are two segments of our direct users of the app:
a. Volunteers
b. Donors

The donors and volunteers will have almost the same functional features within the app. Both can donate, find ambulances and hospitals, see COVID-19 count real-time data of their area, message and communicate with other volunteers & donors.

However, the volunteers will have an additional feature of the patient management system. The layout for both user sets will be almost the same to maintain consistency and remove any chances of ambiguity in case they change their role in the future (i.e. from donor to volunteer or vice-versa).

Note*: The user flow for onboarding of the volunteers as well as donors is attached below this document. Kindly refer to that.
