Coral reefs are underwater ecosystems created from calcium carbonate produced by corals made up of closely related colonial organisms called polyps. Corals have bright colors created by algae that live between their tissues. A coral reef is endangered by rising water temperatures because corals expel algae causing bleaching and even threatened by ocean acidification (pH reduction), water pollution, and cyanide fishing, all have contributed to the loss of 1/3 of the coral reefs.
A colored reef has been created by small origami, which will gradually lose their color and remain white, almost dead. The project aims to function as a living transport for the invisible whitening epidemic that now plagues our planet's oceans.
