The site and its context: East Street and the Walworth area.
The site is situated on East Street which every  two days hosts a market. However, the market ends as the urban fabric suddenly shifts from the victorian town and its streets, to the 60's monolythic residential blocks and its walkways.

exploded axonometric drawing of the existing building and the facade treatment. The addition of an interior-facing walkway serves the flats from the ground floor as well as it provides an extension to the flat's spaces by implementing a new garden-looking balcony.

exploded axonometric drawing of the proposed "secret garden"'s landscape, showing the introduction of an in situ concrete structure (which serves as an 'open gallery' to connect the estate with East Street) and timber pergolas, the introduction of fruit trees and cultivations which act both as functional entities (by providing food for the cooking workshops) as well as by providing an intimate space for outdoor recreational activities.

1:50 model and section of the greenhouse highlighting the north-facing side of it, which hosts a studio space and library. vertical cultivations (small growings planted in recycled plastic bottles) exploit the volume of the space and at the same time provvide adequate shading for the studio space.

view of the "open gallery". such intermediate space allows the access to the scret garden at daytime (thanks to revolving gates situated at each end) and connects the estate's residents to East Street.

conceptual collage: Due to the Aylesbury Estate being in a condition of urban in-betweenness due to its demolition and regeneration, the idea of exploiting the construction cranes also for turistic views over the regeneration and of the South London's skyline suggests an extra financial aid that could help the Learning centre's construction.
