Process
I began by brainstorming a short story, primarily one of my own true stories.
The story tells of the heart-sinking moment when I was shopping whilst looking down at my phone. Then I bumped into someone, dropping my phone. Scared to pick it up, I prayed my new phone wasn't cracked. To my relief, it was fine, however, I learnt my lesson and popped into a phone store and got a screen protector. I also learnt to watch where I'm walking and not be glued to my phone!

Process (Continued)
I introduce the reader to the context by starting the story with a scenery shot of a figure walking amongst a crowd, implying a shopping centre or busy location. I did a variation of line hierarchies with a cross-hatching technique to show depth and contrast between the main figure and the background.

During the climax of the story, the phone is dropped and the face of the figure is shocked. I placed multiple thick and thin sharp lines around the figure to add intensity.

Reflection
From this exercise, I was reminded of the enjoyment of creating your own story from a small monumental moment in your life and adding your own spin to it with a simple medium such as a fine tip pen. Adding depth and drama with the use of line hierarchies. Forming depth between the focal figure and the surrounding figures/ background with the use of cross-hatching. Techniques that are so simple, yet they add even more narrative to the story.
