QUBBET EL-HAWAA (ASWAN -EGYPT)

Qubbet El- Hawa ( Aswan - Egypt )
It is a rocky mountain located on the west bank of the Nile near Aswan. The mountain is about 130 meters high and contains carved tombs of the nobles and priests of Aswan from the era of the ancient Egyptians. Also located on the southern top of the mountain is the tomb of a Muslim saint named Sidi Ali ibn al-Hawa, after whom the dome is named. It is a white mausoleum with a dome seen from afar, and below it are the remains of a Coptic monastery (St. George).

The tombs of the Dome of Al-Hawa were distinguished by the fact that they were for the nobles and governors of the Nubian region and the notables working in that area from the era of the pharaohs, which are chambers carved inside the mountain, decorated with walls, and of different sizes and designs. Its decoration carved on the walls gives images of the usual life in the days of the ancient Egyptians

The high carved tombs can be accessed from two sloping roads towards the Nile on the eastern side, paved straight for the ascent and descent of groups of people and each with two stone walls. The tombs of the ancient Egyptian nobles are located in three layers on an elevation in the middle of the mountain. The number of tombs from the era of the ancient Egyptians exceeded 100, and about 1,000 people, men, women and children, were buried in them, most of them dating back to the Old Kingdom and the New Kingdom.
