For this commission I had to create two illustrations for the article "Obá Ilú", which is a fragment of "Afrodescendencias", an anthology of texts from Serafín (Tato) Quiñones. The article, published on the cuban music magazine AM:PM, portraits some of the musical achievements of Jesús Pérez Puentes, a master of the batá drums that was often qualified as "Obá Ilú", a term that can be translated from the yoruba language as "King of the Drums".
For this project I got my main inspiration from the term "King of the Drums", its relation with the deity Changó and the rich rythms of the yoruba music and the batá drums. You can read the full article here.
